Ayr Academy refurbishment begins with extension demolition
June 25 2018
South Ayrshire Council have begun work to refurbish the former Ayr Academy with demolition of a 1930s rear extension to provide additional playground space, external teaching areas and car parking.
This will clear the way for the historic school’s conversion to a new primary school following Ayr Academy’s relocation to a BDP-designed new build at the Craigie Estate.
The current Fort Street building was erected in 1880 and will be comprehensively refurbished for its new guise as Ayr Grammar, hosting 430 pupils and 50 pre-schoolers within an on-site Early Years Centre.
Designed by BDP and delivered by Morrison Construction the new school will also include community arts facilities, an archive and registration centre.

Hopefully they don't make a 'Kier' of it! Although, in saying inadvertant demolition seems to be a Kier USP, so this might have actually played to their strengths..

When all conversion work has been completed, will there be an open day for former pupils to visit the Academy and see the alterations - all before the buildings are re-occupied by pupils and staff?
